Ten Tips: Staying Fit During the Holidays

'Tis the season to get faaaaat falalalalalaaaaa -.-

I tend to workout more, actually, during the holidays - no idea why! But yeah, I decided to make a little blog post that might help some of you to stay fit and feel better during the holiday season, when everyone is getting fat and just...lovin' life :P
  1. Plan out your meals and workout beforehand If you plan what you're going to eat/your workout for the week you are less likely to cancel and not want to workout. Give yourself a cheat day, if that also helps, and a day or two off of working out.
  2. Wear tight clothes to parties I know this sounds weird, but if you wear tight clothing (body-con BCBG dresses and skirts are the BOMB) you are less likely to overeat...'cause no one wants to have a food baby while wearing a body-con :P
  3. Fill your plate with healthy foods first If you eat a plate of healthy food first you most likely won't be stuffing yourself with as much unhealthy food as you would have! I do this during the holiday season, and believe me, it works.
  4. Don't starve yourself beforehand Have a big breakfast, a nice healthy lunch, and you can indulge at dinner, just don't starve yourself before so you can "eat more" at a party. It is bad for your health, and you'll just end up overeating, gaining weight, and just feeling sick afterwards!
  5. Have some protein before a party/dinner If you have a little snack filled with protein (apples with peanut butter, greek yogurt, etc.) that'll fill you up for a bit - resulting in you eating less at a party and preventing you from stuffing yourself with a bunch of unhealthyness :P
  6. NO liquid calories Repeat after me: liquid calories are not my friend. Liquid calories are NOT my friend. So put down that Coke and turn down the eggnog, because you'd rather eat something nutritious and maybe not-so-healthy than just drink a ton of empty calories.
  7. HIIT it High intensity interval training is your best friend during the holiday season. Or any season, for that matter. It burns the calories and gets you STRONG AND SEXAYYY for the holidays ;) Oh, and HIIT is basically when you go super hard for a couple of minutes, then go easier for 2-3 minutes, and then go super hard again.
  8. Get enough sleep! Sleep is, too, your best friend. Getting your 8 hours of sleep every day can actually help you lose weight and is just good for you! And who doesn't love to sleep??
  9. Go for a walk I don't know about y'all, but I love going on long walks. Especially in Texas during the winter time! I live basically in the middle of nowhere where there are a bunch of ranches and farms, so I love putting on my cowboy boots (or riding boots ahah) and going for a nice long walk (by myself or with the fam). You get to enjoy the great outdoors and get some extra exercise ;)
  10. Switch up your routine When you switch your routine and start a new one that your body isn't used to - you are going to burn more calories and besides, it's so much more fun!
Hope y'all found these helpful, and hope you had a great 2012!

xoxo,
Liz
